Nostalgia is denial - denial of the painful present. Gold Age Thinking is the erroneous notion that a different time period is better than the one you are living in. The “Golden Age” of Hip-Hop, 20-years ago when boom-bap production and jazz samples were the bread and butter to what many consider to be the greatest time that ever was, is slowly fleeting away. Contemporary rappers desperately try to cling on to the nostalgia of the Golden Age, and usually have the right intention, but seem to come up short in their execution.
